Midwest Contemporary: Juried Photography Exhibition

Awards: First Place $500; Runner-up $250

Lillstreet Gallery is pleased to announce its second juried exhibition of photography. Artists residing in the Midwest states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin are invited to submit work for possible inclusion. All subject matter and photographic processes are welcome.

About the Juror: Paul D’Amato is a Chicago-based photographer. He received an MFA from Yale University and currently teaches at Columbia College Chicago. D’Amato has published two books, Barrio and We Shall, and has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Grant, and a Rockefeller Foundation Grant to Bellagio, Italy.

Framing and Shipping: All accepted work must be framed in a professional manner with hanging wire (no saw tooth hangers). Work must be framed using Plexiglass, not glass, and maximum frame size is 40 inches on the longest side. Work must arrive by February 23, 2015.

Sales and Return of Unsold Work: Lillstreet Gallery will retain 50% commission on all sales. Any unsold work will be returned to the artist within four weeks of the exhibition closing date at the expense of the gallery.


Lillstreet Rooftop Project Space

Application Deadline: February 2, 2015


Artists are invited to install work onto four, 9-foot flag poles on top of Lillstreet’s rooftop deck and garden. Flags as well as alternative installation proposals will be considered. Work can be seen from the CTA Montrose Brown Line elevated tracks and Metra Train tracks, as well as Montrose and Ravenswood Avenues.  Installations rotate monthly, May through December and work is displayed indoors prior to install date. Cash prizes are awarded to Best In Show ($500) and Honorable Mention ($150) artists. Photo documentation will be provided to all participating artists, as well as opportunities for artist receptions. All work will be archived on the Lillstreet Art Center gallery page and in the Textile Department’s hallway gallery.

Deadline: February 2, 2015. Accepted proposals notified by February 10, 2015. Proposals will be reviewed by Camille Canales, Director of Textile Department and Nora Renick-Rinehart, 2014-2015 Artist-in Residence
