Vulnerable Assets addresses societies generalized culture of local and global violence. Violence is everywhere and affects everyone. Many speak of wanting peace; however obtaining it is incredibly difficult. No matter the situation, in order to end violence, people must put themselves in vulnerable positions. My use of target imagery expresses this by displaying vulnerability through direct exposure. By hanging targets on the roof, Lillstreet is, in essence, challenging those outside to give them their “best shot”. As flags blow in the wind, they also address the precariousness and fragility that comes with putting down one’s guard and opening up to being a target. The constantly shifting flags also express literally the difficulty of hitting moving targets. Staying in motion is necessary for continued growth and to combat violence. Creating a sense of security is a constant dance, give and take, and back and forth. Over time flags deteriorate due to weather, thus the target flags also speak of the hope of a dissolving vulnerability.
