Merry Metals: Jewelry Trunk Shows for the Holidays features new work by some of the finest jewelry artists from across the region. Join us each weekend, November 17-December 18, to explore a different selection of hand-crafted wares! Sarah C. Chapman is a studio metalsmith who shows her work at juried art fairs and in Midwest galleries. Sarah works with sterling silver, copper, brass, and sometimes gold to create her jewelry, while patinas are used to give these metals richer tones. Found objects or semi-precious stones often reside in or become a part of her metal structures. Each piece is unique, solely designed and fabricated by Sarah in her Chicago studio. chapmanmetals.com
Karla Wheeler was born in La Jolla, California in 1979 and currently lives and works in Chicago. A long-time member of Lillstreet Art Center, she has been creating jewelry for eight years. Her passion for creating brought her to metals after college. She is drawn to the design of numbers and she embraces her background in computer programing to translate quotes for her binary cuff bracelets. Amy Lemaire is an artist and educator based in Louisville, KY. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her MFA from Pratt Institute, and has studied with Vittorio Costantini at Pilchuck Glass School and Paul Stankard at Urban Glass. She has been working with glass since 1997, and specializes in flameworking, with an emphasis on soft glass sculpture, beadmaking, and botanical replication. Amy has taught flameworking at glass studios around the country, including Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY, Glassworks in Louisville, Kentucky, and Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. Pam Robinson is a Chicago based jewelry designer creating one-of-a-kind pieces using silver, gold and semi-precious stones. In business for the past 22 years, Ms. Robinson is an award winning designer who has been published in many books and magazines. Ms. Robinson was named one of Chicago’s artist’s of the month in 2004. She teaches metalsmithing at Lillstreet Art Center and Loyola University in Chicago.
Alix Mikesell designs and creates jewelry in her Oak Park, IL studio. She focuses on the creative reuse of alternative materials such as laminate countertop, reflectors, buttons, bicycle chains, beach pebbles and swizzle sticks. Alix received her M.F.A. degree in Metalsmithing & Jewelry Design from Indiana University in Bloomington. She has taught Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design at Indiana University, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Northeastern Illinois University. Her work has been exhibited nationally, published in Metalsmith Magazine, and two of her pieces are in the permanent collection of the Jewish Museum in New York. alixmikesell.com
