Amanda Dobbratz

Amanda Dobbratz makes functional, whimsical home goods, meant for everyday use. Her work is playful and fun, while fulfilling the needs of domestic life, for example: sparkly water tumblers, planters that give you lip, or bowls with chains. Her sources for decorative surface treatments include deserted landscapes, body ornamentation, and historical textiles which have developed into a personal taxonomy of symbols--perhaps drawing the lobes of a cactus into the form of a basket, or the dot patterns found in traditional tattooing into a glaze treatment. Her ceramics have a wild character, a free spirit as she builds and pinches her forms to perfection.
