Michelle Summers
Michelle Summers grew up just outside of Portland, Oregon, with a posse of cats, one dog, a rotation of lizards and fish, a band of horses, and her oddball family. She spent many childhood afternoons digging holes, making forts, and living in the alternate reality of her imagination. As an adult not much has changed. Her art has been influenced (to name a few) by Mebris pottery, basket weaving, abstract and modern painting, Chinese landscape painting, and Japanese folk arts.
Michelle received her B.F.A. in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and her M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She has been a long-term resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation, Northern Clay Center, as well as teaching classes, workshops, and working with community art outreach programs for youth. She currently resides in Helena Montana and is working to established a full time studio practice and business.
